Folsäure Hevert (Folic Acid Hevert)

For treating folic acid deficiency

Folic acid, essential for young and old alike

Women who are trying to get pregnant or are pregnant are very familiar with folic acid. But everyone should make sure to get enough of this B vitamin because stores in the liver are rapidly depleted in times of increased need. Even eating good sources of folic acid such as spinach broccoli, eggs or liver cannot always remedy a deficiency because only a fraction of the heat-sensitive vitamin will ever make it to your plate after being cooked. As a result, folic acid deficiency is the most common vitamin deficiency in Europe.

Symptoms of folic acid deficiency include general weakness, sleep disorders, forgetfulness, pallor, changes to the mucous membranes and diarrhea. Because it is involved in the breakdown of homocysteine one of the primary risk factors for vascular calcification (arteriosclerosis) patients with cardiovascular diseases should also ensure that they are getting enough folic acid. Recent findings have also associated folic acid deficiency with diminishing mental acuity in the elderly and with the more frequent occurrence of depression.

Folic acid deficiency caused by a diet low in folic acid, an increased need, for example during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, in hyperthyroidism or taking the Pill, can quickly be corrected with Folic Acid Hevert Tablets. This protects the fetus in utero from birth defects and ensures a good supply when breastfeeding. Elevated homocysteine levels caused in part by folic acid deficiency are reduced, thus also reducing the risk of vascular disease.

Folic Acid Hevert reliably provides you with the B vitamin folic acid that you need. The folic acid found in Folic Acid Hevert can be processed noticeably better by the body and it is more stable when exposed to heat, light and oxygen than folic acid compounds found in food.

The increase in immature red blood cells (reticulocytes) caused by folic acid deficiency can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency. Due to the risk of irreversible neurological damage, before starting treatment for anemia due to abnormal development of red blood cells (megaloblastic anemia), make sure that this is not due to a vitamin B12 deficiency. The cause of megaloblastic anemia must be determined before the start of treatment.

Adverse effects

In isolated cases hypersensitivity reactions, e.g., in the form of reddened skin (erythema), itching (pruritis), difficulty breathing (bronchospasm), nausea or circulatory collapse (anaphylactic shock), may occur. At very high doses gastrointestinal disorders, sleep disorders, excitation or depression may occur.
