A nice Christmas present: Hevert-Arzneimittel donates 10.000 Euro for the Christmas Appeal “A Workshop for Gando” organized by the association Schulbausteine für Gando e.V. (School Bricks for Gando). With the donation, the association wants to build a workshop for coordinating and storing items for the construction areas in the Burkinabe village Gando. The German specialist in naturopathy supports the association, which is funded solely by donations, since 2006.
The architect and founder of Schulbausteine für Gando e.V., Francis Kéré, had a dream: born in Gando, Burkina Faso, he wanted to build a school which would withstand the rain season and be well adapted to the climate and culture. Today, together with his association he is setting up sustainable building projects which, for years, Hevert-Arzneimittel supports via the campaign “Together for Children” donating 1 cent to the association for every package of medicine purchased.
The project “Workshop” totally convinced the partners of Hevert, Mathias, Marcus and Sarah Hevert. “Over the years, the association Schulbausteine für Gando has become a matter that is near to our hearts. We greatly appreciate Francis Kéré and his work,” Mathias Hevert, managing director, states. “We are very proud that with the great support of our customers we are able to advance the important project “A Workshop for Gando” by the end of this year. We are already looking forward to our next trip to Gando, which we hope we’ll be able to take soon, to examine the progress.”
Over the years, together with the community of the West African village Gando, the association, located in Berlin, has built a primary school, a school extension and housing for teachers basically out of nothing. So far, building materials as well as tools have been stored in one of the classrooms at the school campus; construction areas have also been coordinated from here. Some workers even used the room for sleeping as they would have had to travel a long distance to get home.
In the long run, this cannot be a sustainable solution: more and more children want to visit the school; the classroom space is needed. Therefore, the association is now planning to build a separate workshop, the so called Gando Atelier. The workshop will then function as an on-site base for the organization Schulbausteine für Gando as well as for the central coordination of the construction projects. During Christmas time, the association located in Berlin started a call for donations “The Atelier – a Christmas Appeal for Gando, Burkina Faso” at betterplace, the largest online donation platform in Germany.
